EMERGENCIES For those patients needing urgent treatment refer to Northampton or Kettering General Hospital. Ring the respective department for advise and instructions. A referral letter is necessary
CATARACT Referral is by the direct cataract referral form. Patients should NOT be referred via the GP unless they have suspected co-morbidity such as uncontrolled diabetes, hypertension, angina or co-existent ocular morbidity such as ARMD, glaucoma or significant diabetic retinopathy.
DIABETICS Retinopathy screening takes place at either Northampton or Kettering General Hospital or by a mobile van service.
GLAUCOMA Currently no scheme.
LOW VISION Referral via the GP for assessment by hospital optometrists at either Northampton or Kettering General Hospital Low Vision Clinics. There are Northampton Association for the Blind (NAB) drop in centres across the county.
ARMD Kettering - if wet macula changes/sudden changes, referral is by the 'Wet AMD Rapid Access Referral Form'. Fax to hospital on 01536 492570. Northampton - currently no scheme.
